Roti Canai is one of the traditional cuisines in Malaysia that represent Indian culture. As a Malaysian, normally ate Roti Canai either for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner or supper. So, why do people love Roti Canai that much? For your information, the main ingredients of roti canai are flour, egg, ghee, sugar, salt and condensed milk. It not only can fill your stomach, but it also serves as a dessert.
Normally, people eat roti canai with dal and sambal. Dal is a type of curry and there are many types of dal in the restaurant nowadays, the normal one should be chickpea dal. Every restaurant has its special dal so that people are more willing to visit their restaurant. Of course, there’s also some which maintain the traditional flavour. The taste of dal is spicy, just right to match with Roti Canai that tastes salty. If you like something spicier, you are able to take the meal with sambal also! It has another taste if we add in some sambal sauce. Besides, there’s another choice. Some people eat roti canai with sugar, it tastes just like just right, normally kids will like to eat in this way.
Not only the original roti canai, but some restaurants also come up with different flavours of roti canai nowadays. For example, there are roti Sardin, which is the dough fried with Sardine fish in it; roti telur, which is dough fried with eggs; roti milo, obviously dough fried with the milo flour and lastly the classic one, roti tisu which is roti canai in a flake.
This Roti Canai was from a Mamak stall at Denai Alam called Thaqwa Corner. Thaqwa Corner was a place suitable for people chit-chatting with their friends and having supper. Although they don’t have any nice views, the place was cool and comfortable. During the MCO period, they also didn’t close the restaurant and keep on their business using food delivering and take away service. Some people may think that roti canai will not taste good after a journey back home, but I think that Thaqwa’s roti canai still tasted good. I really like the taste of their dal with sambal. Thaqwa’s dal actually tastes sweet, it was really good when added some sambal in it.
Not only the roti canai, personally I also love their milk tea. I have high requirements for milk tea, so I will be very picky, but Thaqwa’s milk tea suits me very much. It was not too sweet or too milky, just perfect. Besides, my family also likes to buy the bread over there. The reason we prefer these bread is because it isn't soft like others, we can eat with confidence, no need to worry about the effects of preservatives and softeners on the body.
Last but not least, Thaqwa Corner is a Mamak stall that is full of all requests of mine. I really enjoy the surroundings, the food and the service. Unfortunately, it was MCO, I already have a few months didn’t visit the restaurant.
